Power to the Puppies!

Welcome to our site!

The Red Puppy Appeal is approaching its third year in 2009! Many of the red puppies you supported are working guide dogs now! Isn’t that fabulous! Imagine those cute little pups in red Bayleys coats graduating as guide dogs; becoming a friend, companion and a world class mobility aid for blind and vision impaired New Zealanders.

While some red pups make it, a few do leave the programme due to health and temperament reasons. Sadly for us, Stella one of the most famous faces on the Guide Dog Programme decided on a change of career.

While Stella put in a lot of effort, she often lacked confidence during her training and did not respond well to pressure.  She was distracted by other dogs and couldn’t concentrate on her guiding tasks. Unfortunately she had to be withdrawn from the programme.

Stella has been adopted as a pet by one of the best families she could ever ask for. She now lives ‘happily ever after’ in Wellington.  We hear she has found a way into their hearts through her cute and ‘not so cute’ antics.

Stella says a big and final thank you and requests you to keep supporting her little friends. Right now, there are almost one hundred Red Puppies out there, working hard to become guide dogs with a little help from you.

More about the appeal.

View our Red Puppy Appeal TV commercial and get that catchy tune stuck in your head.
There is information on ways you can get involved and you can register to volunteer as a street collector. Or be a Red Puppy Powerpal. A little help goes a long way...

If you’re finding time isn’t on your side and you would love to make a donation, well you can do that online.

It costs the Foundation of the Blind's Guide Dog Services over $22,500 to breed, raise, train and match a guide dog. Please help me to empower many blind, deafblind and vision-impaired New Zealanders.
